39 days is a long time... but praise the Lord it wasn't longer!

If you had told us on April 1, that Aspen would be in the hospital for 39 days we would have likely fallen apart. We are so grateful that we were able to take it day by day. As hard as it was, there were many blessings to our stay. Lindsey was close to school, the hospital was within driving distance from our homes, the hospital had a place for Lindsey and Chris to sleep at night. We had much to be grateful for.

We had some really awesome friends that prayed for us, visited us, brought food and so much more. We were touched in ways that are hard to explain.

Lindsey celebrated her 22nd birthday in the hospital. We know how to party no matter where we are! :)

Now I understand how awesome it is to be a grandmother... His Dee Dee loves him!

The doctor's came in one day and said that Aspen was looking "pale". The next thing we know... he was receiving 2 blood transfusions. Lindsey was at school taking her finals for her junior year of college. It was a difficult time for us all.

We didn't realize at the time just how small Aspen was. His little legs were so long and so thin.

I love the way Aspen is looking at his Pops!

Such a loved little boy!

Going outside for the first time in a month.... Aspen may not realize the excitement but we sure do!

Outside!!! A beautiful spring day that we sure did enjoy!

Aspen's Granny sure does love him!

Our favorite nurse.... Brittany. She was a God-sent.

At the beginning of May, the doctors started telling us they were really concerned about Aspen's liver and his bilirubin count. He was jaundice, even the white part of his eye. He had some scans and some dye injected to see how his body would excrete it. That test didn't go well because his body didn't excrete the dye. Aspen ended up needing a liver biopsy. The doctors feared that Aspen had a biliary atresia and may possibly need a liver transplant.

The whole process was scary but we trusted God for the outcome!

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

On May 8th, we learned that he did NOT have biliary atresia and that his problems were CF related only. We were so thrilled. In fact, it was better than we "could have ever imagined" (love that verse in Ephesians 3:20-21). Not only did he not have the atresia, he didn't need the surgery they thought he would need if it wasn't an atresia. The problem should fix itself. We went to see the liver specialist a few weeks later and Aspen will go back in November but as of right now... his numbers are dramatically improving and we couldn't be more grateful!

GOING HOME! Praise the Lord, we're going home! May 9, 2013... after 39 days!

We were SO excited.... as soon as we got home, we headed for a quick walk at Meridian Park. It felt so good to be outside!
