Happy 39 months sweet boy!
This has been a tough month for you and your family! You were sick right before the walk last month and as I type this... you are getting over being sick and your third anti-biotic. You are doing your shaking vest and breathing treatments every 4 hours which is so hard on your little body but you are a trooper to the core and you already know that it helps you feel better. All of you have had strep... your Mommy was really, really sick for a couple of weeks. Your DaDa and Bennett have been really sick too. We're praying and have friends praying that the sickness will leave y'alls house and that you will have a wonderful, healthy July. This is the first time that you being sick "felt like CF!" This was a hard realization on us all. You have had heavy labored breathing and a terrible cough. Your Mommy and Bennett have had the same really bad cough... so that makes us feel a little better. I'm struggling to think of you having a hard time breathing and I have to turn my fear and my worries over to the Lord... because I know that He sees and He knows and He wants what is best for you and for all of us. I'm grateful that your breathing is MUCH better today... on your 39th month :) but you still have a really bad cough. Mommy is calling the doctor today.
We all love you SO much and are praying healing for you and your sweet body and for protection over your little lungs. I'm praying that this wouldn't cause any permanent damage to them.
Our God is able and He "can do more than we ever asked or imagined" as His word says in Ephesians.
Mommy was really sick with strep and DaDa was entertaining you two....
Dee Dee and Pops went to Texas for the week for Pop's work. We could hardly wait to get back and see all of you. You came up to play for a little while...

You all were getting over being sick. We didn't go swimming but we stuck our feet in the water.
We are using the pool so much more this year. You and Bennett LOVE the "water" or to swim. :)
We got you a shark to ride on at the pool store.
You are so brave in the pool. You're even going down the stairs in the deep end...
You were amazed that Pops did a flip into the pool... you thought you might give it a try for just a second. LOL
Nothing like a "milkshake" after swimming. I'm so thankful you drink them so you can get the calories....
You have a little bit of a stubborn streak and sometimes have to go to time out. Look at your little face! You look so much like your Mommy here!
You swim all over the pool and kick those feet. I'm so proud of you.
We went to Chick-Fil-A and you and Mommy and Dada, Bennett, Pops and I went to the movie... your first. We went to see Finding Dory. You love fish movies!
SO big... you need a sandwich like everyone else. :)
We had awesome seats right up front.
After the movie we all went to Target to get you some Dory toys for the pool. You love your new goggles...
I'm so glad you love the pool!
Pops is giving you a "talk" for not acting nice in the pool.
You were listening to every word he said...
Happy Father's Day!!!
Granny and Papa came out to watch you swim and Nelly was trying to teach you to swim to her...
I love that you love your goggles...
The goggles were a little tight but you were sad to have to take them off...
After everyone else left... we looked for lightening bugs in the yard. You LOVE doing that...
You are Mister "I can do it all by myself" to the core. LOL Mommy came back into the play room to find that you had rearranged your toys and were being super creative to get your balloon down. LOL
You LOVE your John Deere tractor. You and DaDa chased each other around the yard...
DaDa "rigged" the wagon on the back of the lawn mower. You and B had so much fun!
You love to come to Dee Dee's house for gummies and some apple juice. I love how you took your gummies over to your frisbee for a mini-picnic. haha
Riding in the yard on anything is something you love to do...
You've been so sick and we've been gone so much that we haven't seen you in June very much. We were on our way to Rome to see Aunt Joyce's family after her passing and Mommy called and said your breathing was hard and she was calling the CF clinic. We turned around and you spent several hours with us. Your eyes were weak, your cough every few seconds, your breathing was labored but you managed to get a smile out because you loved coming up and playing. We played all sorts of games. It's SO hot (99 degrees) and there is an air quality alert, so we can't even go outside.
I'm so proud of you and how well you do your vest and breathing treatments. You think that B needs to do the vest and breathing treatments also for his cough. It won't be too long before you start asking more questions.
Your doctor is out of the country for a month. You have your annual appointment on July 12th. We are hoping you can make it until you have your appointment at the clinic. Your breathing is SO much better with the albuterol breathing treatments and the vest every 4 hours. Your cough still is very deep and you're having coughing fits. It really concerns us... however, your Mommy has had a cough for several weeks and Bennett also has a bad cough... so it's not just you. Praying that your lungs are not being affected by this nasty bug.
You LOVE to go outside but we've had such hot days (upper 90's) and also an air quality alert, so you haven't been outside as much as normal.
During nap time for Bennett (because you are so big and "me no more need a nap")... you get time to play with just Mommy. You LOVE to go out to the creek and look at the tiny fish in the water and "fish!"
You make us all laugh with your clothing choices. haha! You insisted on wearing your basketball shorts and this button down. LOL
You came up to Dee Dee's for a little while with Mommy and had so much fun! You acted like you had never seen some of the toys. LOL You are so cute taking "selfies" with your toy camera. I can't wait to buy you a real camera to take pictures with Dee Dee.
You wanted to go outside and take pictures of Bow Valley! LOL
We rode your tractor and I shot you with your water gun! :)
DaDa and Bennett were down at your house. They came up for a minute to say hello but B wasn't feeling very well. They left and you said..."Bye Bennett! See you later! Bye Bye!" It made us all laugh. I think you enjoy a little alone time. :)
Mommy said y'all needed to go home a little later and you were quick to say it wasn't time. You needed to help Pops after all! HA!
Following Pops to trim some trees. You are going to be such a big helper!
Pops showed you how to cut something down. You LOVE to do things all by yourself! SO independent and I love that.
You are such a fast learner...
Pops was working late and Mommy asked me to go with y'all to CFA. DaDa said if you ate two bites of your sandwich... you could have a balloon. That's one way to get you to take a bite.
You've been wanting a sandwich instead of nuggets but you weren't very hungry tonight. You said your sandwich was too big. LOL I wish Dee Dee ever thought that. haha
DaDa told you not to throw the balloon again or he would pop it. Your eyes! hahaha
Mommy got a peach milkshake and you sure were interested in that.
Mommy and Dee Dee went to a ladies event at our church. It's so awesome to see sweet friends making jewelry in your honor... I especially love the "Just Breathe" one. 1/2 of the proceeds that night went to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. #Grateful
You are SO funny and are SO independent and we LOVE YOU! Most of the things you do and say keep us laughing!
From Mommy: " When naming everyone in the family by name tonight, Aspen named Bennett Hawkins, Aspen Hawkins, mommy Hawkins, dada Hawkins, Dee Dee Hawkins, pops Hawkins, nelly Hawkins, and cho Chri Hawkins. I suppose it's time to explain family units. Sweet boy!"
You know you are Aspen Christopher Hawkins... so why shouldn't the rest of your family be Hawkins too! LOL
*****
You love to go and wake up Bennett. You told your Mommy that you would go get Bennett and to stay right there (I love the hand motions you use)... As you were walking away you turned and said..."Now do NOT eat my candy!" hahaha!
*****
You love to talk to people in the store. It cracks me up! You SO get that from your father. :) You say HEY to everyone you pass. Now you've started talking to the UPS man. You love to tell him how you like to fish. SO cute!
*****
You have a bedtime ritual that your Mommy thinks is intended to extend bedtime... LOL You say... "Goodnight Mommy! Love you!" "Goodnight Mommy! Love you!" Over... and over... and over. :) If Mommy just says "Goodnight, Love you" back... that's not OK! It needs to be "Goodnight, Aspen! Love you!" Such sweet memories!
*****
You were outside playing last night and heard me coming up from getting the trash can. Your Mommy said you screamed..."Hey Dee Dee! Hey Dee Dee!" and then said..."She must not hear me! I go find her. She must be over the bump!" (Talking about the hill on the driveway)! LOL!
I'm so grateful I get to see your sweet face so often. You called this morning and said you wanted to go swimming tonight. You LOVE the pool. I can't wait. I'm so grateful that you are well enough to kick around in the pool and praying for your nasty cough.
It's so easy to get caught up in the worry about tomorrow when today is where LIFE is! I'm thankful for our family, our fun and our journeys together.
Please join us in prayer this month for Aspen. We appreciate your prayers more than you know!
Aspen goes for his annual appointment on July 12th at 2pm. Please join us in prayer for:
* Aspen's cough to clear up
* Aspen to stay well and for his lungs to not get any infection
* For his July 12th annual appointment. They will do an x-ray at CHOA, blood-work, possibly a CT scan and he will see a LOT of people including his main doctor and the liver doctor
* For his A1C for blood sugar to be "normal!" 50% of people with CF get CF related diabetes (and at young ages)
* His weight to be acceptable and prayerfully in or around the 50th percentile
* For his liver numbers to be acceptable and his lungs to not show any further concerns
* For his throat culture not to show that he is culturing ANY bacteria
* That the 4 of them would stop passing illnesses from one to another. We would be grateful for them all to be well.
PRAISES!!!
* Aspen's breathing isn't labored like it was a few days ago
* His cough is better, even though it's still very deep
Aspen... your Dee Dee loves you to the moon and back and back again! You are such a JOY in my life and in all of our lives. I love your humor, your independent spirit and your funny facial expressions! I love playing games with you and watching you learn and grow and be such a brave boy. I love to see you running up the hill to our house and I love that you love the pool. I love your determination and that you love prizes! LOL You are so much fun and you couldn't be more loved or prayed for. Praying that your July will be full of fun and NO germs.
I love you Little Mister! I can't wait to swim with you tonight. :)
