Another wonderful and blessed month! Aspen went to his pedeatrician yesterday and he weighs 23.5 pounds and is in the 50th percentile for his weight and the 75th for his height! PRAISE the Lord. It's always great to get good reports. :)
It's been an exciting month since I last updated everyone. Aspen started the month out by saying, "Love you, Dee Dee." It doesn't get much better than that. The doctor wanted to know if he was talking. Ummm… Yes! The doctor said he should be saying 6-10 words. Well, he certainly has that covered. He, some days, seems to say that many new words in a day. His new words are…. diaper, Bye Dad (the doctor said it was great that he was joining words together), more milk, moo (for what a cow says), arf arf (for what a dog says), he counts to three and says so many other words. He repeats so much of what we say.
He loves to climb (within 60 seconds, he's on top of our HUGE bed), he can make record timing to the top of our stairs too. He loves to ride in his car outside. He loves to run (we say, "Ready, set"... and he screams, "GO!" He sleeps most nights all the way through and often times is a late morning sleeper. He calls Lindsey, Mom, Ma and Mama. We can't wait to see which one "sticks." He loves to throw the ball for Bow to "fetch." He loves for Chris to scare him, chase him, tickle him and throw him. He's so much fun.
He is precious and he is 16 MONTHS!
This is the day that Aspen said, "Love you, Dee Dee"!
The 4th of July was amazing this year. We had perfect weather Friday, Saturday and Sunday and much cooler temperatures. Aspen loves to swim.
He is growing so quickly!
I love this picture….he's all decked out in his patriotic outfit to go see the Fireworks!
I can't believe this time next year, Bennett will be here with us! Aspen already doesn't know what to think. ha!
Aspen is such the trooper! I often wonder if he will ever be scared of anything. I wonder if being in the hospital at such a young age for such a long time made him tough as nails. We watched the fireworks and he seemed to love them until he FELL asleep! TOO funny!
We had to laugh! Who could fall asleep on the front row. ;)
On July 12th, Lindsey and Chris had a "gender reveal" party. It was so much fun. We had about 25 friends and family over to celebrate as we shared the news that Bennett Rainier was due on December 26th, 2014. We're praying that he will be healthy and well.
It's a BOY!!!!
So much excitement….
Celebrate!!!
Doesn't he just make you want to SMILE?
He is such a good eater. He was eating a PB&J and a tomato in this picture but he cracks me up with what he will eat. We're so thankful.
Sweet face!!!
I asked Aspen to smile and this is what I got…. :)
Oh how he loves black beans too!
But he sure can down a banana milkshake too. ha! He woke up to this special treat. :) With CF, he's supposed to eat 1 1/2 - 2 times as much as he normally would to maintain his weight. That's ONE benefit of Cystic Fibrosis.
Aspen has turned into quite the "Pops" boy this month. He LOVES to be outside and he LOVES to play with Bow and in the creek and anything you'll let him do.
Unplanned matching "Aspen" t-shirts. Go team, Aspen! :)
I LOVE that Aspen loves to make everyone smile. He loves to laugh and make you laugh. His new thing is cutting his eyes to the ceiling. He has about 4 or 5 faces that can always make us laugh. Sometimes he pulls out all his funny faces at one time. I pray he always keeps his great sense of humor.
Aspen had his second haircut and he didn't like it quite as well as the one on his first birthday! :) He cried for a minute but he came out looking like such a BIG boy.
Oh my goodness, I could squeeze this face!
He brings so much joy to all of our lives!
Lindsey and Aspen with Chris at Cracker Barrel. What a sweet little family they are.
Lindsey took Aspen to the pediatrician on the 28th for his regular check-up. She thought he looked amazing and his lungs sounded clear. We know that CF is a progressive disease but we also know that God is in control. We also know that Aspen has done much better than they thought he would this past year. We celebrate this and praise God every day for how well he continues to do.
They wen't to Chick-Fil-A to celebrate with a chocolate milkshake. :) After all, if you need the calories… why not? Aspen got 4 shots at the doctor, so it seemed like the perfect day for a special treat.
We ask that you continue to pray for Aspen. He goes back to the CF clinic in August. He is struggling some mornings/nights with his vest and breathing treatments. It's so hard for a 16 month to understand what's going on and to realize that he has to be "still" for an hour. That's along time for a little boy who loves to climb and run.
Mucus blocks the lungs and pancreas. By doing the vest, it "shakes" up this mucus and helps prevent it from being clogged in his internal systems.
Matthew 6:34
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
I read this devotion recently and I pray it for our family:
"Jesus tells us that life is to be lived one day at a time. He will provide what we need for that day. He never gives us grace in bulk. He never says, “Here’s a ten pound bag of grace. Use as needed.” He promises only one day at a time and one days worth of grace at a time. So focus on your walk with Christ today. Tomorrow you can start all over."
Lord Jesus, thank you for this great reminder to focus on following hard after you today. Should you grant us another day, we’ll do the same tomorrow. In Your name, Amen.
The news from last month was much more promising on some drugs in trial. It looks like the combo drugs don't work well together.

There are other drugs in trial and other treatments in the "pipeline." We will keep HOPING. We will keep the FAITH and we won't give up until there is a CURE for Cystic Fibrosis. Please join us in this prayer for Aspen and all those suffering with this genetic disease.
Because of THIS face!
Dee Dee loves you, Aspen.
SO MUCH!
